The Choice is Yours

After many miles walked the traveler came to a fork in the road. To the left was a lush green, flat road which held the promise of ease. He could see open fields as far as the eye could see, and sunshine and shady trees. And to the right was a bumpy road, uphill, which offered challenge. It went straight up and then took a sharp right. And there were rocks and roots to climb over. And it was dark and the way ahead unknown.

The question looming before him was …

“Do you want comfort? Or do you want exposure?”

While he was an adventurer at heart, and usually chose the road less travelled, he was tired and longed for a rest. And so, he sat on the side of the road to think.

“I am of two minds;” he said. “Rest and comfort are alluring, but what is my life about? My passion is discovery. If I jump into the unknown, will it flame the fire in me for the living of life to the fullest? Perhaps that is true rest.”

“But what if the challenge is too much for me, and it is too late to find rest and comfort then? Will it break me?”

He sat with these thoughts for a while. He pondered, weighed the balances, sought inner guidance, and then began to hum a tune from his childhood.

The choice is yours,

The choice is yours.

How you perceive,

Is how you receive.

The choice is yours.

Do you believe?

Oh, can you see?

Do you perceive?

Choose well my friend.

The choice is yours,

And the right choice

Can open doors.

Hmm hmm hmm hmm

Hmm hmm hmm hmm

Hmm hmm hmm hmm

Hmm hmm hmm hmm.

As he sang this childhood song, a light switched on inside, and he picked up his pack, turned toward the uphill road and began his journey anew, humming as he went.
