All the Beaches on the Island

After reading a sign on the Greek island of Samothrace one day, Dana Hoffer found herself dwelling on what it had caused in her. The following are some of her reflections.
“All the beaches on the island are open for swimming, and all the natural water sources are safe for drinking.”
I read these words on a visitor’s sign by a stream on the island of Samothrace. For some reason, that line kept echoing in my mind, as though it were trying to tell me something.
How simple. How generous:
Welcome, human, for coming here. This world is open to you. The possibilities are open to you.
All the beaches are open for swimming, and all the springs are fit to drink. All the peaks are free to climb, and all the wonders are yours to behold.
Go where your feet carry you. Let your gaze stretch as far as it can. Let your spirit move toward the place it longs for. Release it - your yearning spirit - and do not let yourself be bound by man-made fences that confine your steps or clip the wings of your perception.
All the beaches are open to you. Do not waste your time asking, “Is this allowed?” They are waiting for you, for you to see them, to touch them, to immerse yourself in them, to breathe them in and breathe them out. They are waiting for you to give them a place in your life, a name, a meaning, a weight. They are waiting for you to carry them within you, even after you return home.
All the wonders are open to you.
